What environmental conditions should be considered during the storage of three-dimensional hollow fibers to prevent structural damage?

Three dimensional hollow fiberThe core value lies in the "three-dimensional spiral curled structure" and "hollow chamber morphology". During storage, it is necessary to avoid environmental factors that may cause structural collapse, aging, or performance damage. Specific attention should be paid to the following five key environmental conditions:

1、 Control the storage temperature to avoid high temperatures causing the curled structure to become inactive

The curling shape of three-dimensional hollow fibers depends on the "heat setting memory" formed during spinning, which can be disrupted by high temperatures, resulting in smoother curling and decreased elasticity (similar to "springs becoming softer when exposed to high temperatures").

Suitable temperature: It is recommended to keep the storage environment temperature between 15-25 ℃ and avoid prolonged exposure to temperatures above 30 ℃ (such as outdoor warehouses in summer or storage rooms near heat sources);

Taboo scenario: It is strictly prohibited to stack fibers near heating pipes, air conditioning vents, and stove tops, and direct sunlight should be avoided (infrared rays in sunlight can cause local high temperatures), otherwise the fibers may become "curled and loose", and the fluffiness and rebound rate will significantly decrease after filling (such as fibers that naturally rebound quickly and may not recover after being pressed for half a day after being stored at high temperatures).

2、 Adjust the humidity of the environment to prevent moisture absorption from causing structural mold or adhesion

Although polyester itself has a low moisture absorption rate (about 0.4%), when the storage environment humidity is too high, the fiber surface is prone to water vapor attachment. If dust and impurities are present at the same time, mold may breed; In addition, high humidity may also cause slight adhesion between fibers, affecting subsequent opening and use.

Suitable humidity: The relative humidity of the environment should be controlled between 40% and 60%;

Moisture prevention measures: If in rainy areas (such as the southern rainy season), desiccants (such as quicklime and silica gel desiccants) should be placed in storage warehouses and replaced regularly; It is recommended to use "waterproof breathable film bags" for fiber packaging (instead of completely sealed plastic bags to avoid condensation inside the bags), and it should be at least 30 centimeters above the ground (elevated with wooden frames and kept away from moisture on the ground).

3、 Avoid long-term heavy pressure and prevent the collapse of curled structures

Three dimensional hollow fiberAlthough the curled structure has elasticity, long-term exposure to heavy pressure can lead to "plastic deformation" - that is, after the curl is forcibly flattened, it cannot restore its original spiral shape, similar to a spring that "cannot spring up" after being compressed for a long time.

Stacking requirements: When stacking fiber packaging (such as rolls or bags), the height should not exceed 1.5 meters (refer to the packaging load-bearing label for details), to avoid long-term compression of the lower layer fibers by the weight of the upper layer;

Taboo operation: It is strictly prohibited to place other heavy objects (such as metal tools, cardboard boxes) on the fiber pile, and to avoid long-term folding or squeezing of fibers in narrow spaces (such as packed storage boxes), especially for finished filling materials (such as already made fiber cotton rolls). After heavy pressure, "clumping" may occur, and it needs to be reopened during use, and the fluffiness will be damaged.

4、 Be dust-proof and clean to avoid impurities damaging the fiber structure

If dust and debris from the storage environment enter the interior of the fibers, it will not only affect the cleanliness during subsequent use (such as dust appearing after filling home textiles), but may also "wear down the fiber surface" during fiber opening and processing, leading to the rupture of the hollow chamber or curled structure.

Environmental requirements: The storage warehouse should be kept clean, with regular cleaning of the floor and wiping of shelves to avoid dust accumulation;

Packaging protection: Unused fibers should be sealed in their original packaging. If the packaging is damaged, it should be promptly replaced with a clean waterproof breathable bag to prevent impurities from entering; When using fibers, it is recommended to operate in a clean environment and avoid direct exposure to dusty spaces (such as workshops during construction).

5、 Stay away from chemical corrosive substances to prevent fiber material aging and degradation

Although three-dimensional hollow fibers (especially polyester materials) are resistant to acid and alkali, long-term exposure to highly corrosive substances (such as industrial alcohol, paint, detergents) or volatile chemical reagents can cause the fiber surface to age, become brittle, and even damage the polymer structure, leading to easy breakage of curls and damage to the hollow chamber.

Storage isolation: Fiber warehouses should be kept away from chemical raw material storage areas, paint workshops, and cleaning supplies storage areas to prevent chemical substances from evaporating and penetrating into fibers;

Prohibited contact: It is strictly prohibited to use gloves or tools contaminated with chemical reagents to come into contact with fibers, and to avoid mixing fibers with odorous objects (such as camphor balls, moldy clothing) to prevent fibers from adsorbing odors or being indirectly corroded.

Addendum: Inspection and Handling after Storage

If the storage time is long (more than 6 months), it is necessary to check before using:

Observe whether the fiber color is normal (no yellowing or blackening);

Rub the fibers by hand and feel if the curl and elasticity are as good as before (without obvious looseness or clumping);

Smell the fibers for any unusual odor (no mold or chemical smell).

If slight moisture is found, it can be spread out and dried in a cool and ventilated place (avoid direct sunlight); If there is obvious curling, relaxation or mold growth, it is necessary to evaluate whether it can still meet the usage requirements and avoid affecting product performance.
